West Hollywood Supports Foie Gras Ban

Posted by Kevin | Los Angeles, News | Wednesday 25 February 2009 11:53 am

Good news on the Foie Gras front, the West Hollywood city council last week passed Resolution 09-3772 supporting California’s upcoming ban on the sale and production of foie gras, and directing city staff to send copies of the resolution to all restaurants in the city found serving this product of animal torture. It’s good to see that issues like this are coming before the community and getting a bit of discussion. You can peruse the resolution here.

Join The Animal Acres Outreach Team

Posted by Kevin | Los Angeles, Volunteer | Wednesday 25 February 2009 11:29 am

Animal AcresOne of the organizations that The Vegan Collection donates a portion of our profits from sales to is Animal Acres. We feel very strongly about supporting the fantastic work that they do and in their latest newsletter they put the call out for volunteers to work at L.A. festivals to recruit other members and volunteers. They are looking for volunteers to help educate people about the plight of farmed animals and let our community know that L.A. has, and needs, a farmed animal sanctuary. If you are at all interested, contact Katie Arth at membership@animalacres.org.

Gossip Girl’s Dreama Walker Goes Vegan (for a month)

Posted by Kevin | Misc Stuff | Tuesday 24 February 2009 1:11 pm

Dremma

Normally I don’t care about celebrity veganism, but I DO care about everything Gossip Girl, so when I saw Ecorazzi’s Exclusive article on Gossip Girl’ Dreama Walker of course I had to read it. It’s a nice little fluff piece about trying out veganism for a month. The interesting part is that her “conversion” came due to an Earthlings screening organized by the article’s author. I’ve often wondered how anyone can sit through that documentary and not come out unchanged. Here’s a link to the article.

Posted by Kevin | Donations, News | Monday 23 February 2009 1:26 pm

RalphsI just saw this little piece of information in the Animal Rescue, Media & Education (A.R.M.E.) newsletter. Every time you shop at Ralphs, you can have your Ralphs Card set up to donate a small percentage of each purchase to A.R.M.E.
Simply register online at Ralphs.com [http://cts.vresp.com/c/?UncagedFilms/c4508c8d85/bf4a82930d/66ceddab63]:

1. Click Services; then

2. Click on School Programs; then

3. Click on Community Contributions LEARN MORE; then

4. Click on Participant ENROLL; finally

5. Enter ARME or Animal Rescue, Media & Education.

Imagine that! Every time you buy groceries a small portion goes towards funding their next project without you having to do anything but your regular grocery shopping. Very cool and very easy.

ALF 2008 Annual Report

Posted by Kevin | News | Monday 23 February 2009 12:26 pm

ALF Year In Review 2008It’s that time of year when 2008 earnings releases and annual reports start to trickle out and the ALF is no different. The North American Animal Liberation Press Office has just published their Year-End Report on Animal Liberation Activities in North America and it is available for download on their website here. It has a whole slew of data, including all the actions that happened in 2008 as well as diagrams, discussions of future directions, the information about current prisoners and the snitches who put them there. Very interesting reading for anyone who has even a passing interest in the ALF.

Vegans By The Numbers Reprise

Posted by Kevin | Misc Stuff | Monday 23 February 2009 11:35 am

After waxing about the number of vegans in Europe and the US I came across this interesting post about vegan demographics on Vegan Bits.

Vegan demographics
Most likely to be female and under 35.

Gender: Vegans UK Vegans USA Vegans
Male 33% 36% 22%
Female 67% 64% 78%

Vegans By Age:

Age: Vegans UK Vegans USA Vegans
16-24 21% 14% 36%
25-34 40% 39% 44%
35-44 25% 32% 11%
45-54 10% 11% 7%
55+ 4% 4% 2%

They pulled this information from the same source I sited in my earlier post, but I didn’t see these charts. Wow! Nearly 80% of US vegan are women. I thought it would be more equal. Good news for single vegan guys! You can look at the full study here.

Belt Samples Are In

Posted by Kevin | Shop | Thursday 19 February 2009 2:51 pm

Sorry about the lack of posts as of late. My real-life job has gotten in the way of regular posting. I’ve been busy on other fronts and I’m excited because the belt samples that I ordered just showed up this week, and they turned out amazing.

The Vegan Collection Belts

Look for them in The Vegan Collection shop in the not too distant future (say a month or so).
