More All You Can Eat Goodness at Flore Cafe this Weekend

Posted by Kevin | Food, Los Angeles, Restaurants | Wednesday 30 September 2009 3:53 pm

If you missed out last weekend, you’re in luck! Apparently the all you can eat meals at Flore Cafe were such a success they are continuing them this weekend. We went last Monday and stuffed ourselves on the “Thanksgiving Dinner.” Can you think of a better combination than a chilly (for Los Angeles) evening and a huge plate of stuffing with gravy? Yeah, I didn’t think so. All the details of this weekend’s All You Can Eat for $10 brunch are after the jump: (more…)

New Website for Skin Trade – The Film

Posted by Kevin | News, Websites | Wednesday 30 September 2009 2:04 pm

Skin Trade PromoAs you hopefully know, 25% of the profits from all sales on our website go to charity, one of those being A.R.M.E. (Animal Rescue Media and Education). On top of rescuing unwanted and homeless animals, A.R.M.E. has also produced the award-winning documentary “Behind The Mask.” A.R.M.E. is currently hard at work finishing up their second full length documentary “Skin Trade” which targets the cruel practices of the fur trade. They have finally launched the website with a brand new trailer that you can view here. And while you’re there, throw them a few dollars via PayPal on the “Donate” page.

The new website: http://www.skintradethemovie.com/

Freelance Vegan Writers Take Note

Posted by Kevin | News, Websites | Friday 25 September 2009 9:30 am

Just saw this post on Craigslist and it sounds like the perfect job for 95% of the people with vegan blogs out there:

Writers wanted for freelance work: You must be vegan, must enjoy writing about food, must be good with a digital camera, and must enjoy meeting and interviewing people. We are looking for freelance writers in the following areas: Los Angeles, Orange County, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Email veganwriters@yahoo.com to get involved.

Compensation looks to be $100 per gig.  Some secret new vegan dining blog or just a Craigslist scam? If you get hired, let me know what the scoop is.

EBT for Vegetarian Restaurants?

Posted by Kevin | Los Angeles, Websites | Tuesday 22 September 2009 3:12 pm

EBT GoalBlogger and sometimes commenter El Chavo recently wrote a very good rant on LA Eastside about EBT (the fancy electronic debit card for food stamps) being taken at fast food restaurants in Los Angeles. He goes into how public funds should be spent on promoting healthy meals instead of questionable fast food fare, but quickly changes his tune when it is revealed that it’s a simple 5 step process for any restaurant in Los Angeles to apply to accept EBT. The Restaurant Meal Program as it’s called, is set up to allow homeless, disabled and elderly the ability to purchase prepared meals. Who knows if people would opt for a vegetarian meal over fast food, but it would be great if they at least had the option. As always, he makes a lot of interesting points, calls out some veg restaurants for not getting on this train and wraps it all up nicely with a nod to socialism. You should really check out the full article here.
