EBT for Vegetarian Restaurants?
Blogger and sometimes commenter El Chavo recently wrote a very good rant on LA Eastside about EBT (the fancy electronic debit card for food stamps) being taken at fast food restaurants in Los Angeles. He goes into how public funds should be spent on promoting healthy meals instead of questionable fast food fare, but quickly changes his tune when it is revealed that it’s a simple 5 step process for any restaurant in Los Angeles to apply to accept EBT. The Restaurant Meal Program as it’s called, is set up to allow homeless, disabled and elderly the ability to purchase prepared meals. Who knows if people would opt for a vegetarian meal over fast food, but it would be great if they at least had the option. As always, he makes a lot of interesting points, calls out some veg restaurants for not getting on this train and wraps it all up nicely with a nod to socialism. You should really check out the full article here.
