The Vegan Collection on VEGGYWOOD

Posted by Kevin | Blogs, Los Angeles | Thursday 16 July 2009 9:47 am

VEGGYWOODI started reading the very awesome VEGGYWOOD blog a couple of months ago. Basically, Polly Helen does exactly what I wish I had time to do on this blog, write a couple of posts a day about animal friendly events happening around LA and miscellaneous vegan links on the web. Well, today up pops a post on her site about The Vegan Collection in my RSS aggregator. Awesome! Check it out here and make sure to subscribe to the blog feed. She is always posting interesting content that I don’t see anywhere else.

Check out the New Earthlings Blog

Posted by Kevin | Blogs | Tuesday 30 June 2009 3:59 pm

Earthlings CoverTwo weeks ago when we were at the Vegan Earth Day we were just a few booths down from the Earthlings folks. When we were chatting with them not only did we find out that they have a new movie, Unity, coming out in the not distant future (Fall 2009), but they also have a new blog to go along with the forum on their website. You can keep up-to-date on all the news about the new film as well as upcoming Earthlings screenings and more. Did you know that Earthlings is available as an audiobook? I didn’t until I read the blog. Check it out here and make sure to subscribe!

My New Favorite Blog: animalrights.change.org

Posted by Kevin | Blogs | Wednesday 10 December 2008 11:00 am

Yesterday I posted the link to help “Rescind the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act” at change.org, but didn’t realize there is also an Animal Rights blog on the site as well. Stephanie E. seems to be holding her own over in Obama-change-land while having to deal with the requisite “I love meat” bullshit comments that come with having a high-profile blog. She has a bunch of interesting articles so go check them out.

http://animalrights.change.org/

Update: Silly me. I was thinking change.com was Obama-related. It’s not. That’s actually change.GOV. Sorry for any confusion!

New Blog Alert: The Professional Vegan

Posted by Kevin | Blogs | Tuesday 2 December 2008 1:06 pm

Just stumbled across this new site thanks to a few traffic referrals. The Professional Vegan site is “a blog for lawyers, bankers, consultants, and other overworked professionals who are vegans, yet work in industries in which the prevailing dress code requires donning and carrying absurd amounts of leather, wool, silk, and other animal products.” It is a goldmine when it comes to women’s fashion, but there’s still some tidbits of useful information in there for fellas. Ever since The Stylish Vegan went on hiatus a few months ago I’ve been relying solely on Joshua at The Discerning Brute as my personal vegan style guide. It’s nice to be able to add another vegan style site to the list. You can check out the site here.

“Vegans are more like the Scientologists of Vegetarianism”

Posted by Kevin | Blogs | Tuesday 11 November 2008 11:01 am

Lifehacker today has an article posted today about cooking vegan on their website. They link to the WikiHow page How To Feed A Vegan For Three Days Or More. The most amusing thing, of course, is the backlash, of course, about veganism in the comments. They are worth reading for a chuckle. You can get to the post here. Some of my favorite comments:

  • - I’ve seen some vegans that are worse than a kid who doesn’t like peas, and they really need to be handled in the same way.
  • - I’ve always wondered if vegetarians/vegans realize that animals don’t even know they are alive.
  • - i blame peer pressure, i went to school in Boulder, Colorado. but then i saw the errors of my ways, and now i enjoy flesh regularly
  • - Veganism is an eating disorder. It’s just an excuse to starve yourself by using a socially accepted label.

General public, how I love thee.

LA Chomps

Posted by Kevin | Blogs, Food, Los Angeles | Monday 27 October 2008 1:52 pm

Our good friends Natalie, a graduate student, and Andrew, a stand-up comedian, both food mavericks, have started a brand-spankin’ new Los Angeles restaurant review blog, LA Chomps. Not only do they tell you how veg. friendly the restaurants are, they also tell you how dog-friendly each establishment is. So far they seem to be covering a bunch of restaurants I have always walked/driven by but never bothered to stop and eat. They’re going to be filtering out the good from the crap (sometimes literally? You can never tell with those B rating restaurants) so you don’t have to. You can visit the site here and easily add it to your RSS aggregator!

Peanut Butter Cheesecake

Posted by Kevin | Blogs, Food | Sunday 12 October 2008 6:53 pm

I’ve been checking out some of the stuff people are making during the Vegan Month of Food. Bjorkedoff has posted what I think is hands down the best sounding/looking thing I’ve seen, maybe ever. A Peanut Butter Cheesecake! That’s two of my absolute favorite things rolled into one. There’s no recipe on the site, so I’ll just have to continue licking my monitor and imagining! Check out the post and more pictures here.

And it begins…Vegan MoFo

Posted by Kevin | Blogs, Food | Wednesday 1 October 2008 8:27 am

Today is the official start of Vegan Month of Food a.k.a. “Vegan MoFo.” What looks to be about 200+ blogs have sworn up and down that they are going to blog about vegan food at least 20 times during the month of October. So set your RSS readers to “Vegan MoFo” and start reading. There’s a Flickr group dedicated to food porn pictures which you can check out here. There’s also supposed to be an “official RSS feed” for the group, but it doesn’t seem to be set up yet. Once it is, I’ll amend this post to add it. But for the time being, I’ve added the full and insanely long list after the jump.
