Shelter Dog Personal Shopper

Posted by Kevin | Adoption | Wednesday 19 August 2009 9:42 am

Shelter ShopperKatya Lidsky has come up with an innovative way to get people to adopt from the local shelters, she offers her service as a shelter dog personal shopper. Shelter Shopper Inc. does an initial consultation and then searches every shelter and rescue group in order to find the perfect match. They do a personality assessment of both the animal and the potential owner and arrange a meet-and-greet to make sure you get the right pet for your lifestyle. This is a great way to get people who aren’t willing to go to a shelter to still adopt a rescue animal. You can find more information about Shelter Shopper Inc. at their website here.

Drive For Life

Posted by Kevin | Adoption,Pets | Wednesday 11 February 2009 11:19 am

RelayI just read about the Drive For Life group on LiveJournal that coordinates transportation of pets from one location to fosters, rescues, shelters, adoptive homes, or anywhere else they need to go in another state. From what I can gather, they ask for people to take 30 to 90 minute stretches where they meet up with the next volunteer to transfer the pet. The process goes on and on until the animal eventually reaches their destination. Sort of like the 400 meter relay, but with a dog. It sounds like it’s a great way for anyone with some gas money, a car and a little effort to get involved in animal rescue. You can see all the transport requests on their LiveJournal page here.

Tomorrow is “Change a Pet’s Life Day”

Posted by Kevin | Adoption,Events | Friday 23 January 2009 11:13 am

Moorpark MPAOver 300 animal shelters and humane societies will slash adoption fees in order to raise awareness of pet overpopulation. The parent company of the Science Diet brand pet food, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, is organizing the event and has committed to paying for the adoption fees for the first 10 animals at all 300 shelters. Doing the quick math, that’s nearly 3,000 animals that can find a home for free tomorrow! You can find out more information about the event at the website here. It looks like the closest participating shelter to Los Angeles is the City of Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter.

Posted by Kevin | Adoption | Thursday 6 November 2008 4:23 pm

During Obama’s monumental acceptance speech on Nov. 4th he mentioned that they were going to get a puppy & the nation has been talking about what kind of puppy they should get. I encourage all of you who read this to ask the Obama’s to set a great example to our nation by adopting the first dog from a local shelter.

You can visit this website site for more information on how to voice your opinion:
