I’m happy to report that Canela from yesterday’s post was adopted. When I got her off the truck, I was informed that she was “Redlisted” and today was really her last opportunity to get adopted. If things didn’t work out for her, she would be going back to the shelter and would be safe until Thursday, but then be euthanized. The pressure was really on to find this girl a home. Unfortunately, you can’t let on that the dog is scheduled to be put to sleep, so you have to just push that they would make a great pet and leave it at that. I thought that I had her adopted early in the day to a gentleman that came by and had another dog that looked exactly like her. I pushed the “you need a matching set!” angle, but that didn’t work. He walked away with her number and “would think about it,” but I didn’t get the vibe that he would be back. Fortunately, a little later a great family with a young girl stopped by. After 2 hours of chatting with them and a lot of reassurance from the other volunteers, they signed on the dotted line and are picking her up from the spay/neuter facility today. Canela was absolutely adorable, was so ready to please and super smart. They are getting a fantastic pet that is bound to be a loyal companion for years to come.
I snapped some photos at the event and have posted them below. As of yesterday afternoon, all the dogs you see in the gallery are still available (including that adorable white sleepy puppy). Get in touch with me if you see something you may be interested in and I can put you in contact with someone for more information.
