Generally they have a wide range of vegan vendors peddling their wears in an exhibit hall, but it looks like this year is more focused on the speakers and cooking panels. Still worth looking into if you’re passionate about healthy eating. Click here for more info.

Join fellow animal rights activists this Sunday in Long Beach to raise funds and awareness for Farm Sanctuary. The special guest for the afternoon will be veterinarian and animal advocate Dr. Armaiti May. Click here for more info.

Picks for the Weekend: September 11 – 13

Posted by Kevin | Events | Friday 11 September 2009 1:02 pm

Looking for fun stuff to do this weekend? These are our picks:

Friday, September 11th:

Mixer followed by Dancing at Vegan Village Cafe: As part of the 30 Days of Celebrating Being Vegan festivities, you will find us at Vegan Village Cafe tonight having a drink and eating vegan spicy buffalo wings (the best in town). For the night owls, after the restaurant closes, people will be heading upstairs for dancing until 2 AM.

Benefit for the EPAA (Echo Park Animal Alliance): Later this evening we’re planning on heading over to Pehrspace for the Echo Park Animal Alliance benefit concert. The event features 5 bands (Blessure Grave, Voice on Tape, Bestial Mouths, Warrior Line, and Birth) and all money collected goes towards EPAA. Doors open at 9 PM and the cost is only $5.

Saturday, September 12th:

Animal Acres Gala:As most people probably know, Animal Acres had to evacuate their facilities and postpone their annual gala due to the fires. This high-falutin’ event which has such backers as Ellen Degeneres will be held this Saturday instead and is being held at The Riviera Country Club. Ticket sales are already closed, but a limited number of outdoor, terrace seats are available. You can call 661-269-5404 to see if you can still reserve one.

Sunday, September 13th:

Basset Rescue Network Bath Day: Animal Acres wasn’t the only rescue organization affected by the fires last week. BaRNi has over 100 dogs that need the smoke and grime cleaned off of them. Basset hound washing commences at 9:30 AM and is finished when all the dogs are clean. You can find out all the details about helping out here.

Picks For The Weekend

Posted by Kevin | Adoption, Events, Los Angeles | Friday 10 October 2008 12:42 pm

Saturday, October 11th
I have never participated in the Pasadena Humane Society’s Wiggle Waggle Walk but I’ve heard it’s a great time. Unfortunately we’ve been cursed (blessed?) with two unruly mutts that aren’t exactly good in doggie social situations. I may stop by just to see the hundreds of dogs all walking around the Rose Bowl. Not only that, they have competitions for Pet/Owner Look-alike, Best Trick, and Ugliest Dog. If you can’t make it, there’s still time to donate.

Sunday, October 12th
Best Friends Fall Super Adoption
is happening today. Over 65 rescue organizations bring out their dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, parrots and rabbits all available for adoption. I participated in the spring event and the turn out was amazing. Get there early to get your pick of the cutest pets.
