Picks for the Weekend: October 16 – 18

Posted by Kevin | Events | Friday 16 October 2009 11:23 am

Looking for fun stuff to do this weekend? These are our picks:

Friday, October 16th through Sunday, October 18:

Healthy Lifestyle Expo: If you find yourself out in the valley this weekend, stop by the 2009 Healthy Lifestyle Expo. I have attended the Expo in previous years to check out some of the vendors. Generally they have a wide range of vegan vendors peddling their wears in an exhibit hall, but it looks like this year is more focused on the speakers and cooking panels. Still worth looking into if you’re passionate about healthy eating. Click here for more info.

Saturday, October 17th:

Paws On The Patio Pet Adoption:Come out and find your new BFF. LA Animal Services will be bringing both dogs and cats out to Pussy and Pooch Pet Store on Saturday. Every animal that is adopted gets a free goodie bag with food and accessories. Click here for more info.

Sunday, October 18th:

Walk For Farm Animals:Farm Sanctuary’s annual Walk for Farm Animals in October helps spread the word about the treatment of animals on factory farms. Join fellow animal rights activists this Sunday in Long Beach to raise funds and awareness for Farm Sanctuary. The special guest for the afternoon will be veterinarian and animal advocate Dr. Armaiti May. Click here for more info.

For even more events check out the calendar.

February is Pet Dental Month

Posted by Kevin | Events, Pets | Friday 6 February 2009 3:25 pm

dogsmileI was just informed that February is officially National Pet Dental Month and I didn’t even get our dogs a card! I think that the $500 in dental cleaning that was spent on the two of them last year is gift enough. Since then, we’ve been doing our best to brush their teeth every Sunday to prevent the huge buildups of plaque that has plagued them before their teeth were cleaned. This article on About.com about pet dental hygiene suggests that you brush your pets teeth every day. When talking with our vet, she suggested to do it once a week. If you need tips on healthy dental habits for pets, downtown LA pet store Pussy and Pooch is having a workshop from this Sunday 1-4 PM. Happy brushing! (and here’s hoping your pets are more cooperative than our dogs)

Bark Avenue Grand Opening

Posted by Kevin | Events, Los Angeles | Monday 17 November 2008 3:35 pm

This past Saturday we headed down to downtown Los Angeles for the grand opening of the new Bark Avenue dog and cat boarding facility located on S. Main St. between 5th and 6th street. One of the great things about Bark Avenue is that they also run the Bark Avenue Foundation, a non-profit organization that is very active in community outreach and helping homeless pets. At the grand opening this past weekend they had quite a few great animals which are currently available for adoption. There was also music and vendors including one of my favorite pet stores, Pussy and Pooch Petstore. Check out the pictures below for photos from the event.

Some of the animals that are pictured may still be available for adoption, so if one of them catches your eye, be sure to give Bark Avenue a call to follow up on them. Their website is located here.

Posted by Kevin | Events, Los Angeles | Thursday 23 October 2008 9:41 am

Pussy and Pooch, downtown’s most adorable pet store, is teaming up with J Lounge for Fur.licious, a costume party for 2-leggeds and 4-leggeds alike. There will be a fashion show, free pet grooming consultations, a costume contest, a silent auction and $3 martinis (for the owners, not dogs). You can click on the image for all the details or go ahead and RSVP here. Dogs and bars, there’s no better combination.
