Thanksgiving Recap

Posted by Kevin | Food | Friday 28 November 2008 8:52 am

We spent a low-key thanksgiving just cooking for ourselves this year. No family, no friends, just good food. We were a little late in the game getting our un-turkey, so we ended up making a Tofurkey instead of the fabulous Celebration Roast like some other people. All in all, it was a smashing success. On the menu was:

  • - Homemade French Bread
  • - Tofurkey with stuffing
  • - Mashed potatoes with green onions and gravy
  • - Green bean casserole
  • - Cranberry sauce

But the true highlight of the afternoon was homemade cinnamon rolls for dessert!

And to top it all off, some of Bob’s homemade boysenberry cider.

Mission accomplished.

More Vegetarian Mainstream News Stories

Posted by Kevin | News | Friday 21 November 2008 4:47 pm

I don’t know if it’s because we are so near Thanksgiving, but vegetarianism has been getting all kinds of press lately. Here’s an article that just came out in this week’s Newsweek Magazine about being vegetarian/vegan during Thanksgiving. In the same magazine there is an article by Peter Singer about animal rights and the recent vote in California. It’s a great read, but I think it’s more amazing that both articles show up the same week in a major publication with a circulation of over 3 million.

Oh The Irony…Sarah Palin’s “Pardoned Turkey”

Posted by Kevin | News | Friday 21 November 2008 1:11 pm

This story was picked up by all the major news outlets just in time for Thanksgiving. Sarah Palin might have inadvertently done something positive for the animal rights cause with this publicity nightmare:

Former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is causing a stir for an interview she gave after pardoning an Alaska turkey Thursday, during which one bird was being slaughtered in the background.

The video and full article can be seen on CNN’s website.

Thanksgiving – What’s for Dinner?

Posted by Kevin | Food | Monday 27 October 2008 12:38 pm

The eternal dilemma, what to do for a vegan Thanksgiving? This becomes especially perplexing if you happen to “cooking challenged,” or if you live in a postage-stamp sized apartment with a tiny kitchen. This year, Vegin’ Out has you covered. They are offering a home-cooked vegan Thanksgiving feast for two created by nutritional chef Tim
Boissy. The meal includes a field roast made of seitan with mushroom gravy, plus traditional favorites like mashed russet potatoes and garnet yams with cinnamon and nutmeg, cranberry orange relish, green beans almondine, ruby quinoa salad and a choice of vegan, gluten-free pumpkin or apple pie from Fabe’s Natural Bakery. You get all this for $67.99, which includes local delivery. Orders must be placed by November 21st to ensure delivery by the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. You can place your order at the Vegin’ Out website or by calling 800-420-4927.
